Cantaro

July 24, 2022

Laundromat Art Space

Cantaro is a site-specific performance created within the context of the collaborative installation Fragmented Inner, Middle and Upper Landscapes by Francisco Huichaqueo, Claudio Marcotulli, Laurencia Strauss and Roxana Barba as part of the group exhibit Artificial Landscapes: Imaginary Realities curated by Yi Chin Hsieh.

Drawing inspiration from the archaeological site Alter of Choque Chinchay, a ritual stone in Chavin de Huantar, Peru, Cantaro brought performance and ritual through the back door and into the hallways of Laundromat Art Space in search of ancestral connections with water and life cycles, continuously pouring them onto and out of small commercially made cantaros/pots.

The performance took place as part of an Imaginary Reality: Artificial Landscape group exhibit walk-through led by curator Yi Chen Hsieh.
